REAL DEALS.
REAL STRUCTURES.
How an original Arabic IP combined production, investment, distribution and platform licensing.
Same market. Different structure. A real example of financing an expandable entertainment property.
CAPTAIN SHEDEED
An original Arabic entertainment property created as a world of characters and stories, with potential to expand through future seasons, spin-offs and commercial licensing.
Private investors, strategic/media advisors, Doha Film Institute, CoProduction Salon and Shahid each contributed different roles to the structure.
Creator, Writer, Director & Founder
Divine Touch Productions
DIVINE TOUCH: Founder & Lead Producer
- Ramy El Gabry initiated the idea in 2016
- Created and developed the concept
- Wrote and directed the work
- Led production and built the team
- Provided studio and equipment
- Financed the project's early stages
THE PARTNER ECOSYSTEM
Investors: capital + media/strategic expertise
DFI: production grant + development support
CPS: marketing & distribution + market access
Shahid: commercial licence + audience access
Divine Touch financed development and early production before the external financing stack was secured.
owns the underlying IP and original rights.
Divine Touch estimates that the value of an early investor's stake increased to three times its entry value after one Ramadan season — a 200% increase in estimated value, not cash profit already distributed.
Investment participation is separate from IP ownership. Cash distributions depend on contractual entitlement after permitted fees, expenses, obligations and recoupment priorities.
Divine Touch retains the underlying rights. CoProduction Salon handles marketing & distribution of this project, including subsequent sales and licensing opportunities within the scope and term of its agreement.
Investor economic participation continues according to the relevant investment agreements; the end of the first release window does not automatically end those rights.
Premiered during Ramadan 2026
Investment ≠ IP ownership ≠ distribution rights. Each layer has a different commercial function and contractual basis.
IMPACT
What the partnership unlocked:
- Completion of a full 30-episode season
- Access to a major regional platform
- Creative, capital, commercial and distribution expertise in one ecosystem
- A foundation for future seasons, spin-offs and licensing
KEY LESSON
For Ramy El Gabry, patience, commitment and alignment with the right partners were central to turning a long-term creative vision into a produced and released property.
ADVICE TO OTHER PRODUCERS
DON'T LEAVE THESE UNDEFINED:
Choose partners carefully first, then translate that alignment into clear contractual rights and obligations.
